A healing spot for the senses, the Oita Fragrance Museum

gives visitors a chance to admire a vast collection of perfumes from all over the world, as well as historically valuable objects including perfume oil bottles dating back to ancient times, perfume bottles from the Rococo and Art Nouveau periods, incense burners and distillation vessels. Visitors can also sample rare natural fragrances.
Visitors can make their own original perfume or scent bag, experience aromatherapy and enjoy a natural hot spring footbath in the herb garden.
The museum shop, which stocks fragrances from all over the world, and the museum's Italian café are also well worth visiting.

Perfumery workshop: create your very own, custom fragrance!

At the perfumery workshop, visitors can choose and combine their favourite scents to create their very own one-and-only perfume.
With careful guiding from instructors, it's an easy experience that takes just forty minutes.
With nostalgic, gentle and refreshing scents to choose from, these perfumes also make great souvenirs for your loved one - an experience not easily forgotten.
Reservations required.

Scent bag workshop: create your very own, custom scent bag!

This experience involves making original scent bags and 'fumikou' (Japanese perfumed insert), by combining fragrant wood and other incense ingredients that have been used in Japan for centuries.
With careful guiding from instructors, it's an easy experience that takes just forty minutes.
The bags can be placed in a bag or on clothing to create a subtle fragrance.
The fragrance lasts up to one year, and is also ideal for clothing storage as they possess excellent mothproofing properties.
Reservations required.

Museum Shop

The museum shop on the first floor sells perfumes unique to the Oita Fragrance Museum - made from essential oils of kabosu and roses produced in Oita Prefecture, as well as perfumed soap, hand cream and a speciality perfume, 'Wings of Ice' - named after a local exhibition.
The shop also stocks a wide range of fragrance-related products, including perfumes from European and American brands, fragrance lamps and incense from Kyoto's long-established incense shops.
These truly make great gifts and souvenirs.

Herb Garden & Natural Hot Spring Footbath

In the herb garden, visitors can admire about 40 varieties of herbs, which are also used to make perfume.
The natural hot spring footbath (free of charge) is a hidden healing spot available throughout the year.
The adjoining Italian café, Ca Sentbon, is also a popular place to relax and unwind.
